Dr. Shigley grew up in Greenville, SC. Following high school, he moved to Charleston, SC for college and like many others fell in love with the area. So much so, he lived in Charleston for almost 13 years including college, dental school, and residency. He met his wife while in dental school at Medical University of South Carolina James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. They were married just before he graduated from dental school and she graduated from law school.
Upon graduation from dental school, Dr. Shigley did a one year rotation in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the highly renowned University of Maryland Health Center and Shock Trauma Center. In 2014, he returned to the Medical University of South Carolina to complete a four year residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery. During his final year of residency training he was appointed chief resident of the oral maxillofacial surgery service. Dr. Shigley feels very fortunate for the opportunity to have trained at University of Maryland and Medical University of South Carolina, both high-quality and high-volume programs that provided Dr. Shigley with the unique skill set to treat a variety of patients in the most compassionate, caring manner. Between the two training programs Dr. Shigley has attained a high level of expertise in training in dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, full arch rehabilitation, orthognathic jaw surgery, oral pathology and TMJ surgery.
There are many ways a surgeon can ensure the best quality of care for patients, one of which is with continued education. Dr. Shigley regularly participates in advancing his training on the most up-to-date and evidence based surgical and implant practices. He regularly organizes and attends local and national events focused on the advances for dental implant treatment planning, placement, and restoration.
Dr. Shigley is excited to be back in his hometown of Greenville, SC. He and his wife spend as much of their free time as possible with their two young children. They enjoy boating, biking, hiking, golf, and participating in local and global dental mission trips.
