As today’s preferred method of tooth replacement, dental implants are a valuable alternative to an uncomfortable prosthesis. Dental implants are often used to secure loose dentures, restoring a patient’s ability to smile, eat and talk confidently. And because the small screw used to hold the replacement tooth to the jaw bone is made of titanium, dental implants are designed to last for life.
Dental & tooth implants can improve the quality of life for people who have experienced issues with conventional dentures or have lost as much as a single tooth. The following benefits await candidates for dental implants:
- Restored chewing function and enjoyment of meals
- A more youthful appearance by lifting the facial structure
- Clearer speech
- Slowed tissue and bone loss in the jaw
After determining your needs, Dr. Shigley and the Palmetto Oral & Facial Surgery team in Greenville or Simpsonville, SC will discuss your treatment and financing options.
- Pre-Procedure Exam
This exam involves an x-ray or 3D CT scan and may also include taking models of your teeth to determine ideal treatment. The in-office exam takes less than an hour!
The procedure is completed in a relaxed in-office environment using sedation or a local anesthetic and typically takes less than an hour.
While most patients are back to work or school the day after dental implant surgery, the healing process (during which the implants fully integrate with bone and tissue) takes about 3 to 6 months.
